How to Get Your Pages Indexed Faster

posted on February 18, 2009

There are a couple things to do to get your page indexed faster and to starting getting traffic from search engines within hours of creating a new post or adding a new page to your website.

  1. Do social bookmarking submissions right after posting. Most social media websites are indexed a lot more often than your website probably is. You can get your page indexed by submitting. Not only does this help you get indexed faster, and start getting traffic from search engines, but you can probably get traffic from the social bookmarking websites themselves. Kill two birds with one stone and submit to social bookmarking websites.
  2. Plan out keywords, and then use them on social bookmarking websites. Even if your title does not include a few core keywords that you are looking for the page to rank well with, include those keywords in the title of the post (so that they appear in the link text on the social bookmarking website). This might give you a little boost on the SERPs. If you feel that this will hurt your traffic from social bookmarking websites, only do this on the sites that don’t offer a lot of traffic. You can experiment to see which sites these are (they will be different for every type of content.)
  3. Sitemaps don’t really help. Most search engines allow you to submit sitemaps to help them ‘find pages that they wouldn’t be able to find on their own’. The truth is that if a search engine is unable to find a page on their own, they probably won’t rank it very well. That’s just common sense. It’s good if you do update your sitemap, but you shouldn’t rely on it to get pages indexed. Most search engines don’t index pages in sitemaps that often.

I hope that this helps you out. Chances are that if you have quality content, you won’t have trouble getting it indexed. It’s great to have things indexed right after you create them, so try the social bookmarking trick. I’m not really sure about the keywords thing (it’s hard to tell if I had better rankings because of that or because of other reasons), but it is something that you can experiment with and try out.
