Facebook Motion Picture
Rumors are that Facebook is making a full length motion picture. Are these rumors true? We don’t know. Is it still horrible? Yes it is.
How we know
Facebook has confirmed (well.. kind of) it’s Hollyword aspiration on Aaron Sorkin’s group page. He writes:
I’ve just agreed to write a movie for Sony and producer Scott Rudin about how Facebook was invented. I figured a good first step in my preparation would be finding out what Facebook is, so I’ve started this page. (Actually it was started by my researcher, Ian Reichbach, because my grandmother has more Internet savvy than I do and she’s been dead for 33 years.) — Aaron Sorkin
I am now wondering: how, Aaron Sorkin, are you going to make a movie about Facebook? It’s a website that you don’t even know how to use. And what’s with the grandma joke? I don’t find it particularly funny.
We aren’t exactly sure that these rumors are true. Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg have denied that this movie is in production, but they would have noticed Aaron Sorkin’s claims on his group page and shut it down by now if this wasn’t really happening.
Aaron’s approach
Considering that Aaron’s dead grandmother knows more about computers than he does, how is he going to write the movie? He is starting by asking members of Facebook about their experiences on his group page, linked above. You can contribute by posting on his wall or on his group forum. You can’t send a friend request to Aaron himself, but you can send one to his “researcher”, Ian Reichbach. Although I highly doubt that it is actually Aaron Sorkin behind the computer screen, it is still cool that you can contribute (assuming that he will actually use what people have said for his movie). Aaron needs all the contributions that he can get, on a recent (August, 2008) forum post on Aaron’s page Anthony George of London asked:
Have you any idea how you’re going to approach the Facebook Movie project yet? Other than starting this page to see how it works? I suspect you’ll soon get inundated and have to sign off. Will it be a Charlie Wilson type bio-pic?
And Aaron replied:
Anthony,
I honestly don’t know how I’m going to write the movie yet.
How interesting, a script writer that doesn’t know how to write a movie. This should turn out good. ;]
What this means
This, without a doubt, is the revolution of the Internet. If a social network can be made into a movie, what can’t? Certainly nothing on the Internet. Although your social network story probably won’t hit the big screen, you can understand that with this anything is possible. Imagine how much Mark Zuckerberg’s life changed after creating Facebook. He went from a college student to having movies made about him.
